The Association of Indonesian Fashion Designers and Entrepreneurs (APPMI), the organizer of the ongoing Indonesia Fashion Week (IFW) 2019, has introduced its dedication to promoting sustainability inside the enterprise to support green fashion. “We understand the importance of commercial enterprise sustainability and are excited to support the United Nations Alliance for Sustainable Fashion,” dressmaker and IFW 2019 president and founder Poppy Dharsono stated.
IFW, in explaining its goals, referred to a declaration from the United Nations Alliance for Sustainable Fashion at the UN Environment Assembly in Nairobi on March 14, which explained that the fashion industry is the second one-largest purchaser of water, producing around 20 percent of the sector’s wastewater, and releases half of one million tons of synthetic microfibers into the sea annually. The assembly also said that people today buy 60 percent more apparel than 15 years ago, which has led to a boom of favor waste in landfills.

Through its platform, IFW is devoted to spreading the phrase of green fashion, enticing at once with textile and garment producers, designers, manufacturers, suppliers, outlets, consumers, vendors, provider vendors, and cooperative alternate associations and industry bodies. Currently, APPMI has 200 lively contributors in eleven Indonesian provinces. All individuals function in boutique or style shops to cater to the call for modest fashion, prepared-to-wear gadgets, evening gowns, and bridal dresses. (gis/kes)
